§ 16-2. Public health services physician.

  • The city council shall retain the services of a physician to serve in the capacity of the health authority: to provide medical determinations related to the planning department's administration of the regulations set forth in this article; to administer state and local laws relating to public health within the city's jurisdiction; and to perform other duties prescribed by law.

    The physician shall: be legally qualified to practice medicine in Texas, be a resident of Texas, take and subscribe to an official oath, and serve a term of two (2) years, including successive terms as mutually agreed upon by both parties.

    The physician shall not be subject to the personnel procedures for the city.

    If the city fails to appoint a physician to serve as the health authority or the appointed physician fails to perform the duties of the health authority, the regional director appointed by the department shall be authorized to perform the duties of the health authority.
