§ 2-25. Employee classifications.
The city classifies employees as follows:
(a)
Probationary employees are those individuals who have not completed their probationary period, whether employed in a non-civil service or civil service position. Probationary employees may work on a full-time or part-time basis.
(b)
Regular full-time employees are those individuals who have successfully completed a probationary period and are hired to work an average of forty (40) hours per week (except for firefighters who work a 24-hour shift on and 48-hour shift off) on a regular basis. Full-time employees are eligible to receive additional employee benefits offered by the city.
(c)
Regular part-time employees are those individuals who have successfully completed a probationary period and are hired to work an average of twenty (20) hours or less per week on a regular basis. Part-time employees are not eligible for most employee benefits, except as may be required by law.
(d)
Temporary employees are those individuals hired to positions that are occasioned by extra work, special projects, or other factors requiring the use of temporary labor whose employment generally terminates upon completion of the special work or project. Temporary employees are not eligible for most employee benefits, except as may be required by law, and are not entitled to grieve their separation from employment.
