§ 2-252. Duties and responsibilities; terms.
(a)
The youth commission will act as an advisory committee to the mayor and city council. The commission shall consist of ten (10) student members, Grades 7th - 11th, selected from among all local secondary schools. Two (2) members are to be appointed by each council member and the mayor and such appointments shall be made by Resolution approved by the majority of the city council.
(b)
The term of office of each member shall be for two (2) years and shall expire on the last day of May of each year. The commission shall select from among its members a chairperson and a vice-chairperson who shall serve for one (1) year.
(c)
Absence of a member from three (3) consecutive meetings without formal consent of the commission shall be deemed to constitute the retirement of that member. The chairperson of the commission shall certify this to the city council who shall appoint another person to fill the vacancy.
(d)
A sponsor from the city housing authority, EPISD, city parks and recreation department, city police department, and the OLOR Parish will be charged with keeping the commission focused on a predetermined agenda during monthly meetings and assisting in reporting back to the city council.
