§ 12-163. Wiring to meet standards of National Electrical Code.

  • All electrical wiring installed within the city for any purpose whatsoever, and as provided in the sections hereinafter following, in all instances shall be installed as prescribed by the National Electrical Code as adopted in section 12-147:

    (1)

    All electrical wiring in any and all buildings of any description whatsoever, situated within any fire zone in the city shall be encased in approved conduit. All outside electrical wiring (such as wiring which is not enclosed in wall or ceiling), and all electrical wiring which is embedded in concrete, shall be encased in approved rigid conduit. Thin-wall conduit may be employed in installing all other electrical wiring, provided that watertight connectors are used. The use of any machine or other device which makes an indentation in the conduit is hereby expressly prohibited.

    (2)

    All use of flexible metal conduit, as prescribed in Article 350 of the National Electrical Code, latest edition, shall be limited to a maximum of six (6) feet in length and to a minimum of one-half (½) inch in diameter.
